INFANT BAPTISM?  Is it Biblical?

The answer is simply no.

Christian baptism is the means by which a person makes a public profession of faith. In the waters of baptism, a person says,  “I confess faith in Christ; Jesus has cleansed my soul from sin, and I now have a new life of sanctification.”

Christian baptism illustrates, in dramatic style, the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. At the same time, it also illustrates our death to sin and new life in Christ. As the sinner confesses the Lord Jesus, he dies to sin (Romans 6:11) and is raised to a brand-new life (Colossians 2:12). Being submerged in the water represents death to sin, and emerging from the water represents the cleansed, holy life that follows salvation.

Very simply, Baptism is an outward expression of an inward commitment to follow Christ through an inward change in a believers life.   A BABY CAN'T MAKE THIS DECISION

Read these passages and see what Scripture says about baptism.

Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

Acts 2:38  (Babies can't repent)

And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

Acts 22:16  (babies can't call upon the name of God)

16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.

Mark 16:16  (babies can't believe)

41 Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.

Acts 2:41-  Notice the people received his message and believed.

All throughout scripture we read verses.  "REPENT and be baptized", or "BELIEVE and be baptized". Babies can't repent or BELIEVE.

Now, catholics will use the argument

"WHOLE HOUSEHOLDS WERE BAPTIZED".  They claim this says "INFANTS WERE BAPTIZED".

Let's use an analogy.  If I said the Ford motor company just produced a car that's only $500..  Then told you ENTIRE FAMILIES bought cars because they were so affordable.  You would know that only people who bought cars were 16 years old.  You would assume no babies bought cars.    Because you would understand that with a CAR comes a LICENSE.

So, when Jesus said WHOLE FAMILIES were baptized, you would automatically assume that whole families were repenting of their sins and being baptized because of the DEFINITION of baptism.   A baby or even a child doesn't have the knowledge or the wherewithal to make that commitment.

A person's faith can't be transferred on to another person.   A person can disciple their child, but ultimately a decision to follow Christ is a personal decision.

Catholics do the same thing with communion.  Let's dig in this a little.  When a Jewish man proposed to his wife, he would offer her a cup of wine.  When she accepted that cup and drank from it, she was accepting the proposal of a lifetime commitment to this man.   In the same way, when we take the cup, we accept a lifetime commitment to Jesus.

Most Catholics initiate communion when kids are in 2nd or 3rd grade as if somehow 2nd grade kids get some massive spiritual revelation.  Very few kids have any clue what marriage covenant is, much less the covenant Jesus is asking us to participate in with him.
